PREPARATION ~ JULY 2002
1 to 7/07/2002
Later this month I am skippering a 42foot yacht in a race across the Bay of Biscay and have been very busy planning and preparing for this, so very little has been done towards the Dax project.
Apart from considering the engine options, new or secondhand, high spec or average spec, recondition myself?
I have also been debating which are the best seat options. I like the look and support of the luxury squab seats, they are one of the best features in the Dax. However, the high backs seem more sensible and as the bolt to the floor (Peter of DJ says not to put them on runners as this will mean you sit too high) and might therefore be adjustable for different drivers. Also the headrests are a plus point.
7 to 13/07/2002
Well Ingotism has now been despatched to Brest with nearly all the jobs done and some food for my leg stored aboard. Still all I have managed this week is to continue flipping back and forth between squab and high back seats. I have found some nice custom seats on the net, but really not sure if they will fit or look right in the Rush.
Decision made on seats, it is high backs. In Dark Navy & Light Blue/Grey, vinyl.
I have written to Dax and sent a deposit cheque for these, so with eight whole weeks notice, they should be ready to collect with the rest of the build packs in September.
14 to 28/07/2002
I WILL ADD A PIC, when I get round to scanning in all the films.
Been on my holidays, skippering a X-412 sloop in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race, from Brest in France to LaCoruņa in Spain. To read about our trip, click here. Oh, by the way we came first in class.
Work has been continuing on the engine specification, my learning curve is quite steep. But that is partly why I am having it professionally built.
28 to 31/07/2002
Dad has made some more shelves in the garage ready for all the bits and bobs. All I have managed to do is survive a week at work, including having to have a kip at lunchtimes. Oh and process 461 emails on the home PC from when I was away.
